Member of Parliament for the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western region, Ebenezer Kojo Kum, has admonished the campaign team for the Constituency to keep to the sacrifice of securing a second term for President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing party faithfuls at the launch of their 2020 Campaign Team, he stressed that being opposition is no good thing a party member should wish for the NPP.
To him, each and every member of the party should never discount the realities of the challenges they went through when the party was in opposition.
He recounted that the Minority in Parliament share worrying experiences of how they struggle to satisfy the expectations of their constituents.
According to him, the NPP would not entertain any defeat in any of its existing parliamentary seats nor narrow the gap it gave the NDC in the previous elections.
“We don’t have a second chance in this year’s elections. I have come to realize that being in opposition is inconveniently burdensome. If you’re in this room and wish to be in opposition leave us because the uproars and clamors you hear in parliament is due to the discomfort of being in opposition”
The lawmaker, who double as member of the ECOWAS Parliament, highlighted that the NPP won with over 63% of the total votes in the constituency in 2016, hence anything below that in 2020 will be failure on the part of the party.
“We got 63% of the overall votes in 2016; in 2020, any percentage less than 63% means we, the Campaign team members and the party in this constituency have failed. For me, it’s not just about winning the election but winning convincingly”
